The Willits Community Theatre will present a staged reading of Tina Howe’s play, Painting Churches, on Saturday May 18 and Saturday May 25, at the Willits Community Theatre Playhouse. Both shows start at 7:30 P.M.

Painting Churches is about aging. Gardiner and Fanny Church are getting ready to move from their ritzy home in Boston to their summer cottage on Cape Cod. Gardiner, once a famous poet, slips in and out of senility as Fanny valiantly tries to keep them both afloat. Their daughter, Mags, who is herself a painter standing on the threshold of commercial success, comes home to help them move, and to paint their portrait. In painting them, she hopes to come to terms with them as imperfect but loving parents, and with herself. Painting Churches is tragic and tender, amusing and true.
Painting Churches will feature Don Samson as Gardiner, Ailene Gaynor as his wife Fanny, and Elizabeth Dellett as Mags. The show will be directed by Cindi Mohr, who acted in last fall’s comedy Revival at Possum Kingdom Community Church. Admission to this staged reading is $5 and tickets are only available at the door.
